Last Wednesday we had a visit from Dhelynn McClellan, Community Liaison, of a non-profit we were not familiar with serving girls ages 5-15 in a Residential Treatment Center (RTC) in Conroe. The Treehouse Center is a residential home niched in a neighborhood near River Plantation in Conroe serving young girls 5-14 years of age with a safe place to live until they are stable enough to go back to living with their parents or eligible for adoption. The shelter provides an individualized structured residential program to assist troubled girls in achieving a productive daily life, free from abuse, delinquency, substance abuse and neglect.
The Center offers individual services to the girls to develop their overall well-being as a youth as well as recreational opportunities in the community. The Treehouse Center warmed our hearts. All the girls in the RTC are connected to CPS and foster care services. Dhellyn shared the young girls’ Wish Lists for Christmas. They were not re-written but in their own words, hand-written with sketches of the items in both crayon and markers. That was very emotional for the members of the Club!
After reviewing their listing and not understanding LOL Dolls, Hatchimals, and Fortnite characters, all of us present from the Conroe Noon Kiwanis Club decided to make a pledge of $700 to provide the items on the Wish List and other needs the girls may have not listed.
“I am so overwhelmed and grateful for such an amazing group of people who get together to support kids”, said Dhellyn after the luncheon. “This should be more than enough to fulfill the girls’ modest wish lists and may even help cover some additional needs for our kids”.
The Conroe Noon Kiwanis has a new community partner going into 2020 making a stronger impact with kids in the community. The Conroe Noon Kiwanis Club has been serving children in the community since 1952 with projects and events to increase learning, growing, dreaming, and succeeding. They are dedicated to helping kids locally around the Greater Conroe area.
It will definitely be a Merry Christmas!
