The Eliminate Project

Eliminating Maternal/Neonatal Tetanus

Maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) is a deadly disease that ends the lives of 34,000 babies and numerous mothers every year. In 31 countries around the world, MNT can quickly turn the joy of childbirth into tragedy. It kills one baby every nine minutes and its effects are excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. There is little hope of survival.

The Eliminate Project and the Kiwanis group aims to eliminate MNT in the next five years through immunizations and awareness.

Conroe Kiwanis Impact

In partnership with Kiwanis International and UNICEF, Conroe Kiwanis Club has taken on this challenge by raising donations that help to fund vaccines and end this deadly disease.

In 2012, our local club was recognized for its $25,000 contribution to the Eliminate Project. Due to the amount contributed, each member of the Conroe Noon Kiwanis Club was presented a Zeller Award–named in honor of the first donor to the Kiwanis International Foundation.
